Four Reasons Becoming An Electrician Is A Great Career Path

Tamara Horton

When you are in high school, there is a lot of pressure to choose a career path. Guidance counselors and maybe even your parents may tell you that you need to go to college to get a good career. But this is not the case. There are many trades in which you can earn a certification, start working within a year or two, and have a very successful career with a good income. One of these is the trade of an electrician. Here are four reasons why becoming an electrician is a great career path.

You can work for yourself.

Not all electricians are self-employed, and when you are just starting out, you will probably want to work for someone else to learn the trade. However, it is very easy to be self-employed as an electrician, and eventually, many electricians end up taking this path. When you are self-employed, you can set your own hours, decide what jobs you want to work on, and set up your business in a way that benefits you financially. Many people enjoy the greater flexibility that comes with owning a business rather than working for someone else.

Everyone needs electricity.

Almost every home in the United States is powered by electricity. Thus, there is a huge demand for this field, and it's not going away any time soon. There will always be homeowners who need new wiring, builders who need new homes wired, and people seeking to upgrade their service to accommodate more powerful electronics. If you'd rather work in commercial buildings, every restaurant, shop, and warehouse needs power, too.

The field is becoming more innovative.

A few decades ago, electricians basically wired homes and other buildings. But with the advent of smart home technology, the job is expanding. You can help homeowners install smart thermostats, smart refrigerators, and other new appliances. And you can bet the technology will keep advancing, so your job won't become boring or mundane.

The field is regulated.

In most areas, electricians need to be certified and licensed in order to practice. This is a good thing for those in the field since it reduces competition and ensures that all work is done by knowledgeable professionals. As a result, electricians are seen as professionals. You'll be respected in this career path.

If you are looking for a great career that does not require four years of college, then consider becoming a certified electrician
